Liberty Bell’s Wyatt Albright, No. 6, mixed it up with a Pateros player in the Lady Lions’ 8-1 victory over the visitors.
It was a week of extremes for the Liberty Bell High School girls’ soccer team.
On Oct. 2, the Lady Lions easily overcame visiting Pateros, 8 – 1. The Nannies were rarely able to make much happen on the Liberty Bell end of the field, while the Lady Lions mounted one assault after another on the Pateros goalie.
On Oct. 4, the visiting Bridgeport Fillies offered a bigger challenge.
That match ended regulation time in a 0 – 0 tie. Overtime did not settle the issue. So the teams went into a penalty-shot round, where Liberty Bell’s Maya Sheely and Sally Thornton-White each beat the Bridgeport goalie. Tommie Ochoa, the Liberty Bell goalkeeper, fended off every Bridgeport shot, and the Lady Lions came away with what goes down as a 1 – 0 win in the record books.
The victory extended Liberty Bell’s unbeaten record to 9 – 0 for the season, 6 – 0 in league play.
The Lady Lions hosted Manson on Tuesday (Oct. 9). They will visit Brewster (also 6 – 0 in league play) on Thursday (Oct. 11) at 4:30 p.m., then host Tonasket next Tuesday (Oct. 16) starting at 4:30 p.m.
