For your travel planning purposes, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced that Blewett Pass on Highway 97 will be closed in both directions to all traffic from 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, to 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, to replace three culverts under the highway. The road will be closed at milepost 157.6 on the south, and at milepost 169 on the north.
WSDOT said that in addition to the full closure, the culvert projects may require intermittent weekday single-lane closures throughout the month of September.
WSDOT said the existing culvert on Swauk Creek is a barrier to salmon and resident trout, and the other two culverts have a history of plugging up with debris during storms, leading to washouts.
