The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team capped off a dominating season with a convincing first-place finish at the league championship meet in Brewster on Saturday (July 28).
The Methow Valley team stroked its way to 866 points, finishing ahead of the Okanogan Bullfrogs with 620, the Brewster Bearacudas with 515.5 and the Omak Manta Rays with 297.5. It was the second consecutive league title for the Killer Whales, whose nine-year winning streak was interrupted by the Bearacudas in 2016 because the Wagner Memorial Pool’s closure for repairs delayed training for the local swimmers.
Last weekend’s order of finish duplicated the results of the previous weekend’s Methow Invitational meet.
The four teams at the championship meet swam in more than 120 events. The Killer Whales took first place in about one-third of them with 43 wins. They also accumulated 41 second-place finishes and 21 third-place finishes. The Methow Valley team claimed four “sweeps” in which they took the top three places.
Three Killer Whales earned high-point honors for the day: Tyler Darwood in the 15-16-year-old boys’ group; Gavin Blank in the 9-10-year-old boys’ group; and Clara Ramsey-George in the 7-8-year-old girls’ group.
The team celebrated its season with a party at the Wagner Memorial Pool on Sunday (July 29).
