The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team lost a home meet to the Okanogan Bullfrogs in competition last week, but rebounded to take first place among four teams at the Okanogan Relay Invitational.
On July 3, the Bullfrogs bested the Killer Whales in team scoring, 377-284. The final score for the girls’ teams was a close as it could be: Okanogan 166, Methow Valley 165. But the Bullfrog boys scored 211 points to the Whales’ 119 to assure the team victory.
The Killer Whales had 36 wins, 32 second-place finishes and 25 third-place finishes in the 86 events.
At Okanogan on Saturday (July 7), it was a different story as the Bullfrogs hosted Methow Valley, the Brewster Bearacudas and Omak Manta Rays. The Killer Whales took first in combined team scores with 650.5 points. Okanogan was second with 598 points, Omak third with 275 and Brewster fourth with 252.5.
Okanogan took first among the boys’ teams while Methow Valley was second. The Killer Whales girls’ team took first place by a wide margin, sealing the win for the combined teams.
Methow Valley took 28 firsts, 24 seconds and 12 thirds among the 66 events.
The Killer Whales hosted Brewster on Tuesday (July 10) and will travel to the AAU regionals in Toppenish on Saturday and Sunday (July 14-15). Methow Valley will host Okanogan on Tuesday (July 17).
