Cove again seeks sponsors for ‘Friday Food Program’

July 13, 2018 by Methow Valley News

The Cove has launched its annual fundraising campaign to generate sponsors for the “Friday Food Program” that provides Methow Valley School District students in need of food during the school year weekends.

The Cove is seeking 120 individual, corporate and/or organizational sponsors for the program. The cost to sponsor one child for the entire school year is $150.

Backpacks containing non-perishable foods are given to students — from pre-school to high school — on Fridays. The backpacks are delivered by staff, students and volunteers.

To sponsor a child, contact The Cove Methow Valley Food Bank, P.O. Box 895, Twisp, WA 98856; call 997-0227; or visit thecovecares.com, where you can donate via Pay Pal.

The program is the result of a partnership between The Cove and the school district that started six years ago.

“The need in our valley is great,” Superintendent Tom Venable and Cove Executive Director Glenn Schmekel said in a letter to potential donors. “Nearly half of the Methow Valley students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch at school, and many students need food support during weekends.”
