Donation extends Wagner Pool’s season to Labor Day

July 5, 2018 by Methow Valley News

The Town of Twisp had planned to close the Wagner Memorial Pool two weeks earlier than usual this year due to budget constraints, but a donor has offered to provide funding to keep it open until the Labor Day weekend, when it typically closes for the season.

Sarah Schrock, representing Friends of the Pool, told the Twisp Town Council last week that a donor had agreed to contribute to keeping the pool open beyond the scheduled Aug. 17 closure, and Friends of the Pool would provide any additional funding needed to keep the facility open until Aug. 31.

After speaking with pool staff and lifeguards, it appears that the town will be able to continue staffing the pool for the additional two weeks, said Lori Rodio of the Twisp Public Works department. Rodio said the donor offered to pay up to $14,000 but it was likely to cost less than that.

There will be some schedule changes during the final two weeks, from Aug. 20 – 31, Rodio said. Night swim will be eliminated, and time normally scheduled for swim team practice and swim lessons will become open swim sessions from 8 a.m. – noon and 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. The pool will close at 5:30 those weeks, Rodio said. Water aerobics and lap swim times will remain the same.

Rodio said plans to keep the pool open will depend on ensuring there is adequate staff. She suggested that people check the Town of Twisp website or call the pool or town hall for any possible changes.
