George H. Driskell III, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Brewster on Thursday, May 17, 2018, after a fight with cancer. He was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Tacoma, Washington, to George and Eunice (Staples) Driskell Jr. His family moved to Brewster in 1944 where he graduated from high school in 1954.
George was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in November 1962. His military career included tracking radar repair. After his military service, George worked in construction putting up warehouses. He also worked as a temp for Washington state in the winter. He took over his father’s orchard in the early 1980s, where he worked for 50-plus years.
George was a member of the Brewster Flat Domestic Water Board for 20-plus years, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion. He met his lifelong partner, Sandra S. Moses, in 1975 and they lived on the Brewster Flats for 42 years. George loved history, old cars, car racing, fishing, farmers markets and working in the orchard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sons Todd Moses and Jim Fitzgerald. He is survived by his partner Sandra, his brother Charles Driskell, daughter Kim Middleton, sons Steve Driskell and Thane (Tina) Moses, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Barnes Chapel 510 W. Indiana Ave. in Brewster on June 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. followed by a dinner at the Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital, Boys Town, or a charity of your choice.
