Memorial Day: flags, poppies, services

A Memorial Day service will be held at the Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop on Monday (May 28) at 11 a.m. The cemetery is located at 560 Wister Way. The service is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sullivan Cemetery Association. Refreshments will be served.

In addition, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120 and American Legion will be putting U. S. flags and poppy swags on veterans’ graves on Friday (May 25), at 8 a.m. at the Sullivan Cemetery and at 5 p.m at the Beaver Creek Cemetery south of Twisp. Community involvement would be appreciated.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120 also will be distributing poppies on Friday (May 25) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m in front of Hank’s Harvest Foods in Twisp and the Winthrop Thriftway. Poppies will also be available in other locations and at the Methow Valley Rodeo on Saturday and Sunday (May 26 – 27).
