FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR CONFLUENCE OF LOST & METHOW RIVERS THROUGH 5/16

May 14, 2018 by Methow Valley News

From the US National Weather Service Spokane Washington:

Flash Flood Watch
National Weather Service Spokane WA
408 PM PDT Sun May 13, 2018

…Significant rises expected on the Lost and Methow Rivers
impacting an earthen berm protecting the Lost River Community…

Warm weather through the end of the week will produce rises on the Lost River and Methow River. Recent high flows have damaged an earthen berm protecting the community of Lost River from flooding. Additional rises may further damage the berm. If the berm fails, flood water may quickly inundate homes and property in low lying areas along Harris Road, Misty Circle, Buck Circle, and Mercer Road.

…FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON…

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Lost River Community in Okanogan County Washington.

* Through Wednesday afternoon

* Additional rises on the Methow and Lost Rivers will have the potential to further damage an earthen berm that protects low lying portions of the Lost River community. If the berm fails, water could rapidly inundate homes and properties along Harris road, Misty Circle, Buck Circle, and Mercer Road.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

If you live in the affected areas…be prepared to take action to protect life and valuables in the event the berm should fail.
