
Lady Lions keep winning streak alive, advance in league softball tourney

The Lady Lions’ Peyton Lawrence edged into third base against Soap Lake last weekend.
The Liberty Bell High School softball team advanced in league tournament play with a 13-3 home field win over Soap Lake on Saturday (May 5).
The Lady Lions played at Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday (May 8) in their quest to reach the district playoffs. Liberty Bell had won eight consecutive games going into Tuesday’s matchup.
Against Soap Lake last weekend, the Lady Lions took an early lead and won the five-inning game under the 10-run mercy rule. Devin Surface pitched for Liberty Bell and struck out four Lady Eagles. At the plate, Nadine Treise went 2-for-3 with two doubles and 2 RBIs. Janie McMillan also smacked two doubles and drove in two teammates. Hailey Damman was 2-for-3 and had 5 RBIs. Madison Surface added a triple and 1 RBI.
A few days earlier, Liberty Bell defeated Soap Lake 18-0 in the last regular-season game of the year. Devin Surface totally shut down the visitors with 7 strikeouts in three innings. She also had a single and 3 walks.
Katie Labanauskas went 3-for-3 and accounted for 7 RBIs. Damman added 3 RBIs and Natalie Anderson drove in 2 teammates.
It was senior night, and seven Lady Lions were honored: Anderson, KanDee Sims, McMillan, Treise, Emily Post, Devin Surface and Labaunaskas.
Liberty Bell finished the regular season with a 12-4 record in league play and 15-4 overall. After Saturday’s win over Soap Lake, the Lady Lions’ record stood at 16-4.
