The Pipestone Orchestra, an accomplished young scholarship winner, and visiting and local soloists take the stage in virtuosic performances of music by Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Corelli at Pipestone Music’s annual concert next weekend.
Winthrop-based pianist Michael Brady is the featured soloist in a moving piano concerto by Rachmaninoff.
Two violinists and a violist who regularly play with orchestras in Wenatchee, Spokane, Yakima and Seattle join the orchestra in the concert, including a performance of the enchanting Sinfonia Concertante by Mozart for violin and viola soloists and orchestra.
The concert also showcases violinist Lena Nelson, a freshman at Liberty Bell High School and the winner of this year’s Cherrington award, in the high-energy “La Folia” by Arcangelo Corelli.
The concert will be rounded out by the “Liberty Bell March” by John Philip Sousa.
The concert is Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at the Methow Valley Community Center. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for students, and available at the door and at brownpapertickets.com.
