Methow Recycles will host a two-day metal drive on April 28 and 29 at Cascade Concrete on Horizon Flats Road in Winthrop. The event will be from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day.
Most metal items can be dropped off for free, including washers, dryers, pressure tanks; things with engines such as old farm, garden, and lawn equipment (all fluids must have been properly drained prior to delivery, and remove as much plastic and rubber as possible); wire, cable, pipe, chain, barbed wire (rolled up), electrical wire, plumbing parts, and logging cable; scrap steel and iron, cast iron (porcelain enamel OK), miscellaneous metal, rusty stuff, bike frames, satellite dishes, old bed springs; non-ferrous metals, copper wire and pipe, aluminum doors and windows (no glass), aluminum wire, irrigation pipe and roofing, and stainless steel.
There will be a $20 fee for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or other appliances that contain or once contained coolants.
What can’t you bring: Things which aren’t metal, that would make a mess when crushed, or are dangerous. Do not bring electronics, microwave ovens, closed containers or vehicles.
Volunteers are needed to help. If interested, visit www.volunteermethow.org/organizations/methow-recycles.
