Katie Labanauskas slid safely into second base in a home-field victory over Lake Roosevelt.
The Liberty Bell High School softball team split a home field double-header with Lake Roosevelt last weekend, highlighted by senior Devin Surface’s rocket-shot home run in the second game.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Lions dropped a game at Tonasket, 13-7, and went into spring break with a 3-2 record.
Here’s a recap of last week’s action:
Lake Roosevelt 11, Liberty Bell 4 (March 31)
Liberty Bell coach Lee Pilkinton said the Lady Lions had trouble generating enough hits to keep up with the Raiders. Surface pitched for Liberty Bell and went hit 2-for-4 with 2 singles. Janie McMillan went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, and Nadine Treise was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 singles.
Liberty Bell 14, Lake Roosevelt 10 (March 31)
Peyton Lawrence pitched the second game for Liberty Bell. “The team bounced back, hitting well with 20 hits,” Pilkinton said. “Devin Surface was 3-for-5 with a home run and 2 singles, Lawrence was 2-for-5 with a double and a single, Nadine Treise was 3-for-5 with 3 singles, Katie Labanaskaus was 3-for-5 with a double and 2 singles, Haily Dammann was 2-for-5 with 2 singles, Janie McMillan was 4-for-5 with a double and 3 singles, and Isabella Dinsmore was 2-for-5 with 2 singles.”
The entire Liberty Bell team was on the field to greet Surface at the plate as she raced around the bases after blasting the ball to deep left-center field.
Tonasket 13, Liberty Bell 7 (March 27)
Surface pitched and hit 3-for-5 with 3 singles and a walk. Treise was 2-for-5 with 2 singles, and Labanauskas had 4 walks. “It was a close game until the fifth inning when Tonasket scored 6 runs,” Pilkinton said.
A double-header against Pateros scheduled for March 24 was postponed and the games will be rescheduled, Pilkinton said.
After spring break, the Lady Lions will host league-leading, undefeated Brewster on Aug. 10, starting at 4:30 p.m.
