Mustangs take 1st at state AAU basketball tourney; Mountain Lions are 4th

The Mustangs topped a great season with a state championship.

The Methow Mustangs fifth-grade basketball team took first place at the state AAU championship tournament in Spokane last weekend. And the Methow Valley Mountain Lions seventh-grade team took fourth place.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 34-3 record, with two of the losses to sixth-grade tournament teams. At the tournament, they beat Cedarcrest, 61-38, Inglemoore, 41-27, Gig Harbor, 48-28, and Sequim, 48-41, in the championship game. Coaches were Colt Scott and Ryan Surface.

Coaches for the Mountain Lions were Chad Stoothoff, Jeff Monahan and Stephanie Mitchell.
