Confluence Gallery is offering “Art Camp for Everyone,” a four-week youth summer art camp, from July 9-Aug. 3 at the Methow Valley Community School in Twisp.
The camp will be from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cost is $1 each day for ages 5 – 12, or free for student volunteers ages 13 – 18. Campers can register per day during the four-week camp or attend the full month-long session. Register at www.confluencegallery.com. Registration begins April 1 and ends June 20. For information, call 997 – 2787.
Each week will explore the natural world through art making. The 2018 summer camp theme is “Art in the Wild” with art explorations focused on the natural world in the Methow Valley, such as geology, birds and wildlife, river ecology and foraging for wild foods. Sessions are: Week one, “Geology of the Methow Valley;” week two, “A Bird’s Eye View of the Methow Valley;” week three, “The Rivers Run Wild in the Methow Valley;” week four, “Foraging for Wild Food in the Methow Valley.”
Under the direction of camp director Michele Koger, local teaching artists and environmental educators will guide students through a curriculum using repurposed and upcycled resources and materials found in nature, according to Confluence.
All campers will be provided free lunch from the summer lunch program sponsored by the Methow Valley School District.
Confluence is also looking for adult volunteers from the community to assist with camp days. To submit an application, contact the gallery at 997-2787 or email sarahjo@confluencegallery.com.
