Sophia Lawrence, a longtime resident of Winthrop, passed away on Jan. 8, 2018, at the age of 92.
Sophia and Bill were married on Jan. 9, 1945. Bill was born and raised in Carlton. They moved to their ranch with their children in May of 1957.
Sophia belonged to the Rebekahs and the Eagles Auxiliary, was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a lifetime member of the Winthrop Barn Association. She also raised funds for Aero Methow Rescue Service, Little Star Montessori School and the antique car rally. She also sold buttons for the ’49er Days celebration and sold quilt tickets to raise money for scholarships. She volunteered for 15 years at the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce information center. Sophia worked at Sun Mountain Lodge as a prep cook and at the Winthrop Cafe as a waitress.
Her children are William Boyd Lawrence II of Rock Island, Washington, Lynda Sterritt of Dallesport, Washington, and Kathleen Meadows of Palisades, Washington.
At Sophia’s request, there will be no funeral service.
