Learning the moves

December 28, 2017 by Methow Valley News

Four girls are competing for the Liberty Bell High School wrestling team this year, and their progress was demonstrated at the recent Oroville Mixer on Dec. 13, where Lily Cooley, Shelby White and Spencer Hoffner all came away with first-place medals. In the top photo, they showed off their hardware: from left, coach Cory Spellman, Cooley, White, Hoffner and head coach Jonathan McMillan. At a meet in Sunnyside on Dec. 20, White won two matches and lost one, and Cooley won one match and lost two. Hoffner was injured; Hilton was out sick. In the bottom photo, from left, Hilton, White and Cooley took a break at an all-girls meet in Warden on Dec. 9, where White placed sixth in her weight division. All four Liberty Bell girls competed, but only White moved into the final round. More than 250 wrestlers competed at that tournament.
