Here’s a quick roundup of events over the next couple of weeks. They are free unless otherwise noted.

Cello recital

Stephanie Strong, a student of Pam Hunt, will offer a free cello recital on Saturday (Dec. 23) at Community Covenant Church in Twisp, starting at 1 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Linda Mendro.

Brady solo recital

Local pianist Michael Brady will offer his annual solo recital on Dec. 30 at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp. The recital benefits Room One, the valley’s social services agency. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. Admission is by donation; $25 is suggested. For information, call 996‑5002 or email mbrady@methownet.com.

Open studios

• Paula Christen opens her watercolor studio at 447 Wister Way, Winthrop, on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 22 – 23) from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

• Marigold School of the Arts hosts an open studio on Saturday (Dec. 23) and again on Dec. 30 in Room 204 above Confluence Gallery in Twisp from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Story times

There will be a storytime for kids age 2 – 6 on Friday (Dec. 22) and on Dec. 29 at the Twisp library at 11 a.m. There will be a story time at the Winthrop library on Dec. 26 at 11 a.m.

Live music

• Chris Spillman at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop on Friday (Dec. 22) from 6 – 9 p.m.

• Rico Stover and Joe Marver at Twisp River Suites on Saturday (Dec. 23) and Dec. 30, 5 – 7 p.m.

• Emele Clothier at Sixknot Taphouse in Winthrop on Saturday (Dec. 23) 5 – 7 p.m.

• Kris Borgias at Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop on Saturday (Dec. 23) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

• Marc Holm at the Methow Valley Ciderhouse in Winthrop on Saturday (Dec. 23) beginning at 6:30 p.m.

• Pipestone School of Music students perform at Sun Mountain Lodge on Saturday (Dec. 23) from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

• Laura Love and Terry Hunt perform at Sun Mountain Lodge on Dec. 26 from 6:30 – 8 p.m.

• The Tamarack Quartet performs at Sun Mountain Lodge on Dec. 27 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

• The Cascadia Chorale, with Dana Stromberger and Lynette Westendorf, performs at Sun Mountain Lodge on Dec. 28 from 6 – 7 p.m.

• Westendorf Jazz Trio performs at Sun Mountain Lodge on Dec. 29 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

• TR Stewart performs at Sun Mountain Lodge on Dec. 30 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Cookie decorating with Santa

Visit Santa and decorate cookies at Sun Mountain Lodge on Thursday (Dec. 21) from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; and on Sunday (Dec. 24) from 1 – 5 p.m. Santa will read “The Night Before Christmas” on Dec. 24 from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

New Year’s Eve

Celebrate the end of Prohibition at the Freestone Inn in Mazama on Dec. 31, with food, champagne, fireworks and music by The Side Project, from 9 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Cost is $69 per person. Call 996‑3906 for reservations.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Sun Mountain Lodge, with music by Laura Love and the Family Dog, plus food and champagne, from 9 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Cost is $50. Call 800-572‑0493 for reservations.
