Twisp forms committee on economic plan

October 19, 2017 by Methow Valley News

The Town of Twisp will form an ad hoc committee to provide direction on how to implement the town’s recently adopted economic revitalization master plan.

At last week’s town council meeting, Mayor Soo Ing-Moody urged the formation of the committee to spur discussion of what steps should be taken to ensure that the plan keeps moving forward.

Ing-Moody suggested that committee should include representatives from the town council, the chamber of commerce, Methow Arts, TwispWorks, the Twisp Planning Commission, and the parks and recreation and public works departments. The mayor said the committee could meet periodically as necessary.

The plan provides concepts and recommendations designed to make Twisp’s downtown more attractive and conducive to business. It was developed with community input gathered through surveys and public meetings.

The plan proposes a variety of enhancements that include street improvements, archways to identify the downtown area, signage for pedestrians and motorists, street lighting and landscaping. About 20 projects — with a total price tag of almost $10 million — are outlined in the plan.
