The way the Liberty Bell High School girls’ soccer team keeps throwing shutouts at its opponents, the Lady Lions wouldn’t need to score a lot of goals to keep their winning streak alive.
That hasn’t stopped Liberty Bell from putting up big numbers.
The Lady Lions trounced Manson, 8-0, on their home pitch on Sept. 26. Last Friday (Sept. 29), they traveled to Oroville and came away with a 3-0 victory.
Since a season-opening loss to a bigger school, Liberty Bell has won six straight and has held opponents scoreless for the last four matches.
Strong teamwork led to the barrage of goals against Manson. Sally Thornton-White scored three goals in the first half with assists from Josephine Cole, Logan Butler and Maya Sheely. Willow Temple added two goals with assists from Cymone VanMarter and Cece Odell. Sheely found the net with an assist from Thornton-White, and Cole scored with as assist by Sheely.
At Oroville, Thornton-White started the scoring with an assist by Haley Post. Post then scored unassisted. Odell finished things up with goal assisted by Cole.
“Although we controlled the possession and pace of the game, we struggled a bit to find a good flow,” Liberty Bell coach Lincoln Post said of the Oroville game.
Liberty Bell hosted undefeated Brewster on Tuesday (Oct. 3). The Lady Lions will travel to Tonasket on Thursday (Oct. 5), and then stay on the road with a match at Lake Roosevelt on Saturday (Oct. 7).
