Monte Pringle teamed up with Sheri and John Northcott of Winthrop to grow some extraordinarily large pumpkins this season. Imagine the jack-o-lanterns they would make, or how many loaves of pumpkin bread would be possible. Pringle said three pumpkins harvested in the Methow this year weighed in at 301, 520 and 570 pounds. He said the mega-pumpkins are grown from seeds collected from growers around the country and worldwide. Pringle said he hopes to eventually harvest a pumpkin in the 1,500 – 2,000 pound range.
