Hood ornaments used to be a detail of distinction on cars and trucks. Some were stylized works of art, simple or elaborate. Others — such as the round glass gauges that warned of an overheated engine — were also functional. If you knew your makes and models, you could identify a vehicle strictly by the decorative finish at the end of the hood. At the recent Winthrop Vintage Wheels Show, we decided to focus on some of the more eye-catching ornaments and found a wide variety of styles over the decades.
