The Okanogan County commissioners are considering a resolution that would direct the county engineer to evaluate whether Hanford Cutoff Road near Brewster is useful to the public and the county road system.
The resolution states that the old right-of-way is no longer required because the road has been relocated. The resolution doesn’t specify the length of the road that would be abandoned.
The county surveyed a new location for the road in 1973 and construction of a new portion was completed this June 2017. As a result, the commissioners concluded that vacating the old portion of the road could benefit the public, according to the draft resolution.
The resolution was on the commissioners’ consent agenda for Tuesday (Sept. 12). The consent agenda is generally used for routine business and procedural matters.
If the resolution is approved, the engineer would be directed to report on the usefulness of the road at a public hearing on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in the commissioners’ hearing room in Okanogan.
