Local pianists Lynette Westendorf and Maggie Coon will perform a piano four-hand concert on Saturday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m. at the Merc Playhouse in Twisp. The concert is a benefit for Cascadia, the Methow Valley’s local music nonprofit organization. Cascadia presents scholarships to local children, sponsors the Cascadia Chorale and Orchestra in annual concerts, and provides studio space for dozens of music lessons each week on various instruments from strings, piano and guitar.

Westendorf and Coon will play music from the familiar repertoire of music for piano four-hand, that is, music for two pianists at one piano. Included are works by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy, Ravel and Lecuona.

Coon will also perform a solo work by Debussy, and Westendorf will premiere a prelude and fugue from her most recent composition project, a complete cycle of preludes and fugues.

This will be the duo’s first concert presentation. Westendorf performed for many years with pianist Suzanne Johnson before she left the valley a few years ago.

Admission is by donation at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. performance. For more information, contact Westendorf at 996-3418.
