Methow At Home will host two free workshops on dealing with dementia on July 22 at the Twisp Valley Grange. The workshops will be conducted by Lynn Kister, a certified PAC Trainer (Positive Approach to Care) who lives in Seattle.
The workshops, appropriate for anyone who knows someone personally or professionally who is experiencing dementia, are:
• from 1–3 p.m., “Positive Approaches to Helping People Living with Dementia.” This workshop emphasizes basic education about dementia, vital tools to match helping behaviors to a person’s needs and abilities, ways to encourage a sense of control and self-direction, understanding of typical issues that occur through the progression of dementia, and hands-on practice of approaches.
• from 4–5:30 p.m., “Stages/Progressions of Dementia,” will define normal aging as well as the many appearances, behavioral changes, skill sets and needs of those living with the effects of dementia or other brain changes.
Donations will be accepted. For more information, visit methowathome.org.
