Not so great
Dear Editor:
I am having trouble seeing how anyone could think that the United States abandoning our friends, acting like cowards, drastically cutting health care, and encouraging government waste is going to “make America great.”
Maybe some other reader could explain this to us all. On the world stage, Trump has shown he’s a great friend to Russia (with no concern for their meddling in our elections, either) but he told our longstanding friends in NATO they can no longer trust the United States to defend them. He didn’t have the guts to tell world leaders to their face that he was pulling the United States out of the Paris climate accord. He waited until he got back to the United States instead.
Unlike any president in modern history, Trump is afraid to meet the press and answer questions about his policies. He even hid behind closed doors when he signed a bill gutting health care (unrelated to abortion) for women last month.
Republicans in Congress are obviously so scared of how “We the People” will react to their major legislative proposals that they’re also hiding behind closed doors. They will hold no hearings on a bill to cut health insurance for 23 million people, and raise costs for most everyone else, especially the poorest and elderly. No hearings either on the biggest tax cuts in history for the rich. Also with no public scrutiny, Trump is undermining federal Inspectors General. These are the people who fight waste and fraud inside federal government institutions, saving us billions in tax monies every year. Is this all “great” or what?
