The Liberty Bell High School boys’ tennis team kept its unbeaten record in league play intact with wins over Oroville and Entiat last week, then threw in a non-league win over Okanogan for good measure.
Meanwhile, the girls’ team stayed near the top of the league by beating Oroville and Entiat, but fell to Okanogan.
At home against Oroville on April 18, the girls won 5-0. Logan Butler won her singles match, 8-2; Karlee Wright was victorious, 8-0; and Tiva Ward won the third singles match, 8-0. In doubles, Ruthann Matteson and Erin Frey were 8-1 winners, while Chloe Temple and Shelby Vintin finished the day with an 8-3 victory.
The boys bested Oroville by 4-1. Alex Whites lost the first singles match, 6-7, 7-4, 3-7; Forest Rickabaugh followed with a win, 7-6, 6-4; and Tim Haley won his singles match as well. The doubles team of Jesse Schulz and Nate Hirsch took a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win, and Isaac Blodgett and William Grubb teamed up for a 6-4, 6-8, 7-4 victory.
On April 20, the girls’ team was blanked, 5-0, by Okanogan, but the boys came away with 4-1 win on Liberty Bell’s home courts. Butler, Wright and Ward were all beaten in singles matches, while the teams of Frey-Matteson and Temple-Vintin also lost.
Alex Whites lost the No. 1 singles match, 0-6, 0-6, but after that Haley won 6-4, 6-2; Tyler White won 6-2, 6-3; Schulz and Hirsch routed their doubles opponents, 6-0, 6-0; and Blodgett teamed with Grayson Alexander for a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
On April 21, Liberty Bell traveled to Entiat with only four players for the girls’ team, but that was enough for a 4-1 win. Frey took the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-3; her usual doubles partner Matteson won 6-0, 6-0; and Vintin won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Frey and Matteson were back together for a 6-2, 6-1 win, while Temple and Vintin lost the final match of the day, 3-6, 7-6, 5-10.
The boys’ team piled it on Entiat, 5-0, and it wasn’t close. Whites won the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-1; Haley prevailed, 6-0, 6-0; and Hirsch took the third singles match, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Schulz and Blodgett paired for a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Travis White and William Grubb won 6-1, 6-2.
The boys are 7-0 in league play and 9-1 overall. The girls are 6-1 in league play and 6-4 overall.
