Rayma Susan Hayes was born on May 6, 1943, in Galveston, Texas. Rayma passed away at home on Monday, March 27, 2017. Rayma was a longtime educator in the Methow Valley and she adored her community. Upon discovery of her cancer in December, she was able to personally connect with many friends, family members and past children of Little Star Montessori School.
Rayma founded Little Star on March 22, 1982, along with Sandy Welfelt and Sharlene Cardoza. She was overjoyed to pass the directorship of the school on to Dani Reynaud, one of her original students. Rayma devoted her life to children and will be remembered always for her love.
She is survived by her husband, John; her son Daniel Climent and his wife, Georgia; her son Pablo Climent and his wife, Abby; her stepson Thor Johnson; and her best friend Deborah DeKalb. Rayma requested that no formal memorial be held, and asked her husband to instead give the money to the Little Star scholarship fund for any child who needs it. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this scholarship fund in her honor. A gathering in the spring will take place on Rayma’s favorite place on the Big Valley Ranch.
