Mountain Lion wrestlers take to the mat with new coach

December 6, 2016 by Methow Valley News

The Liberty Bell High School wrestling team starts the new season under a new coach: Jonathan McMillan, a Liberty Bell graduate who was an assistant under coach Gunnar Doggett last year.

McMillan was a three-time qualifier for the state wrestling meet as a Mountain Lion and is part of a family that has produced several noteworthy wrestlers.

The Mountain Lions started the season on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at the Okanogan Jamboree. A home match is scheduled for 6 p.m. next Tuesday (Dec. 6), but the school district calendar does not list an opponent. Liberty Bell is scheduled to compete at the Okanogan Invite on Dec. 10.

The Mountain Lions finished 14th at last year’s 1B/2B state meet, and tied for third place the previous year. Liberty Bell won the state title in 2013 and 2014.

Look for a more detailed preview of the 2016-17 season in an upcoming issue.
