The Liberty Bell High School football team finished its season with a 2-6 record after a 48-0 loss at Manson on Friday (Oct. 21).
Despite the outcome, coach Steve White said the game “was one of the best we played all season. Even with a lopsided player count, our guys never gave up.”
“It really showed me the growth all the players had,” White added. “Even with somewhat of a disappointing season record-wise, the players never gave up. I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for the football program.”
The Mountain Lions won two of their last four games in a season that saw them return to 11-man football after a year of playing eight-man ball. Last year, Liberty Bell’s record was 8-1. In returning to 2B competition, Liberty Bell found itself on the end of some lopsided losses. But the Mountain Lions shut out Bridgeport, 41-0, and won their homecoming game against Waterville, 22-16, with a fourth-quarter rally.
A season-ending game against Orcas Island that was scheduled to be played in Concrete on Saturday (Oct. 29) was canceled because of concerns about travel conditions over Highway 20, and because Orcas Island’s roster of players was depleted.
