Verne Elliott Donnet, 60, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at his home on Orcas Island. He was born on Dec. 27, 1955, in West Lafayette, Ohio, the son of Verne and Helen (Francis) Donnet.
Verne will be best remembered as a man who lived life at his own pace and by his own rules. He loved to talk, and he was passionate about doing the right thing and trying to help those who needed a hand. He loved the outdoors — kayaking, fishing, hiking, snowboarding, all of it — and always enjoyed exploring the wilderness.
Over his lifetime, he had visited many of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest and always shared his experiences with those around him. Those who knew Verne will always have stories to share about him. His passionate opinions on learning, storytelling and the occasional bit of mischief shaped the lives of those around him. He took great joy in the company of animals and getting up early to make the most of the day. His truly unique personality will be dearly missed.
Verne is survived by his two sons, Louis Walden Donnet and Verne Dean Donnet, and a wide community of people whose lives he touched. Remembrances can be in his name to the Methow Valley Senior Center.
