Liberty Bell High School tennis coach Dave Schulz, left, tries out the new courts that were resurfaced this week.

The dull gray surface at the Liberty Bell High School tennis courts has been replaced by a new, brilliant blue playing area, an upgrade that was completed this week.

The new playing area has contrasting green aprons around the courts, replacing the old, faded red surface. New nets have also been installed.

The courts won’t be ready for public play for a few days because they need a sealant coat, said Bud Hover, director of operations for the Methow Valley School District.

The upgrade is funded by a $4.5-million levy approved by district voters in 2015. The levy was slated to cover a variety of facilities improvements and replacements over several years.

The tennis court resurfacing is one of the first projects to be completed. Others will be underway this year, Hover said.
