Eva Lea (Laird) Smith, age 84, of Twisp, went to meet her precious Lord and Savior on April 15, 2016, with family by her side. She was a friend to all. Eva Lea was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Cedar Edge, Colorado, to Rose and Clarence Laird.  Eva Lea married Wayne Smith, and they spent 67 wonderful years together.

Eva Lea’s interests and talents were many and varied, including quilting, sewing, reading, online games (she loved her Kindle), texting and emailing with her family, especially during Seahawks games. She loved baking cookies with her grandchildren. She loved Jesus and was faithful to pray for her family and her many friends. She held several ministry positions at Calvary Baptist Church (now Cascade Bible Church) in Twisp: secretary, deaconess, Sunday school teacher, food committee chairman, Awana leader (and once, she even wallpapered the pastor’s office along with her sister Echo.)

She is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne; sister Ruth Bennett, Arroyo, California; brother Bob Laird, Parker, Arizona; sons Chuck (Kathy) Smith, Twisp, Bill (Susie) Smith, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Gary Smith, Twisp; and grandchildren Bryan (Sabrena) Smith, Jennifer (Jeremy) Clark, Andy (Katie May) Smith, Teddi Smith, and Angel Eiffert; and great-grandchildren Madyson Clark, Logan Clark, Kayla Smith, Hunter Smith, twins Jack and Ben Smith, Marley Burress, and Annabelle Burress.

Eva Lea was preceded in death by her sisters Echo Hawkins, Ida Boulch, and Betty Harrison; and by granddaughter Kristy Smith.

A private family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday (May 14), followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Cascade Bible Church, 1119 Highway 20 S., Twisp. A potluck dinner will be served immediately after the memorial service, at The Master’s Christian School, next door to the church.

For such a tiny package, she left a big hole in the hearts of her family and her multitude of friends.
