LBHS tennis teams edged by Tonasket

April 29, 2016 by Methow Valley News

The Liberty Bell High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams lost to Tonasket by identical 3-2 scores on Thursday (April 21), but coach Dave Schulz said he liked much of what he saw on the courts.

For the Lady Lions, No. 1 singles player Logan Butler won, 6-2, 6-0. Larkin Lucy dropped her match, 2-6, 0-6, and Tiva Ward lost, 5-7, 3-6.

Liberty Bell picked up another win when the doubles team of Erin Frey and Ruthann Matteson won 6-2, 7-6, with a tiebreaker. Shelby Vintin and Chloe Temple dropped a long, tough doubles match, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6. “The doubles teams are improving,” Schulz said.

Playing in the No. 1 slot for the boys, Forest Rickabaugh lost, 2-6, 1-6. Alex Whites was shut out, 0-6, 0-6, in the No. 2 position, and Grayson Alexander fell, 3-6, 2-6.

Josh Frey, the season-long No. 1 singles player, instead teamed up with Jesse Schulz for a convincing 6-0, 6-1 doubles win. Coach Schulz said he hopes the duo will make it to the state tournament. Tyler White and Isaac Blodgett won the final doubles match of the day, 6-0, 6-0.

The Mountain Lions hosted Manson on Tuesday (April 26), and will travel to Oroville on Friday (April 29).
