Snow slides made clearing the North Cascades Scenic Highway (Highway 20) a bit more challenging last week, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Crews on the east side of Washington Pass advanced to milepost 164, but much of the week was spent re-clearing snow on the road from the dozen avalanche chutes on Cutthroat Ridge, WSDOT said. “The west side [WSDOT] crew continued clearing the winter’s accumulation of rocks and debris from catch basins and ditches and other work to get the first 14 miles to milepost 148 ready for traffic,” WSDOT spokesman Jeff Adamson said.
