
Arte Flamenco performs on May 28 at Confluence Gallery.
Confluence Gallery and Art Center in Twisp has a number of events on the horizon:
• The gallery’s next exhibit, “Totem,” opens on April 16 and continues through May 4. There will be a reception on April 23 from 4-8 p.m.
The exhibit is curated by Jennifer Molesworth and Nicole Ringgold. It will include work “that reveals how the spirit world is woven with our everyday world often through our interaction with animal spirits,” according to a Confluence press release.
More than 25 artists will be presenting works in a wide variety of mediums such as clay, wood, bone, metal, paper and paint, ranging in size from wearable art jewelry to large three-dimensional pieces over 6 feet tall that will explore personal or cultural totems.
• An exhibit by artist-in-residence Margaret Kingston, entitled “Winter Above 5,000,’” will open April 23 with a reception from 4-8 p.m., and continue through May 4.
Kingston was inspired by the phenomenal El Niño winter and worked to capture with oil paint on canvas, the serene feeling of being in the mountains, according to a Confluence press release.
• A World Music concert by Arte Flamenco will be presented on May 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15. Arte Flamenco, a music and dance duo, features dancer/singer Esther Marion and guitarist Rafael Vargas presenting the art of
Flamenco in traditional and modern form.
• Summer Art Camp for Kids begins July 5 and continues through July 28, with four weekly sessions. Cost is $150 for each weekly session. The workshops will take place on the TwispWorks campus, with sessions for ages 5-8 and 8-11. The camp sessions will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m.
Each week will offer a different theme. Children can enroll for one week or all weeks in their age range. Art will be created in the studio, but, teachers may take students on walking field trips in Twisp for inspiration or to collect materials. Students will be required to bring their own water, lunches or snacks and have swim gear and sun protection.
Sessions are: July 5-7, for ages 8-11, “Draw, Build, Paint,” with Margaret Kingston; July 12-14, for ages 5-8, “Draw, Build, Paint,” with Margaret Kingston; July 19-21, for ages 5-8, “Print Fun in the Sun,” with Laura Gunnip; July 26-28, for ages 8-11, “T-shirts, Buttons & Stamps,” with Laura Gunnip.
