The Methow Valley Elementary School fifth-grade Math is Cool team took second place in one of six regional competitions around the state on Saturday (March 19) in Wenatchee. Thirteen regional schools were represented.

The competition consists of individual math tests, mental math, and various team competitions. The school sent three teams of four students each, with the scores from each team combining to create the overall school ranking.

The Methow Valley team missed first place by just four points, and improved on their third-place win last year as fourth-graders. In individual competition, three students placed in the top 20 out of 195 individuals: Kellen Miles finished fourth, Madison Strauss finished 12th, and Sawyer Crandall finished 16th. Harold Sheley coached the team.
