Methow Valley resident Nick Allgood has purchased North Cascades Builders Supply in Winthrop from long-time owner Wayne Fisher.

Allgood took over the business on Jan. 1 from Fisher, who operated it for 30 years.

Allgood has lived in the valley for five years. Most recently, he was a brewer at Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop. Previously, he oversaw after-school programs at the Methow Valley School District, including Classroom in Bloom.

Allgood said he heard that Fisher was contemplating retirement and selling the business.

“It sounded like a good opportunity,” Allgood said. “It’s a good time in my life to use my business experience.” He earned a degree in business management at Washington State University, and has worked for other small businesses in the past.

Allgood said he’s looking forward to ownership and determining his own direction. He does not currently have any employees, but may add help in the future, he said.

Fisher’s strong relationships with long-time customers created a lot of good will for the business that Allgood said he will try to take advantage of. “I want to continue his [Fisher’s] legacy,” Allgood said.

The business does not carry a lot of inventory on site but special orders materials for a quick turnaround, Allgood said. He intends to have a showroom, Allgood added.

Allgood said he will continue to tap Fisher for advice. “He [Fisher] knows everything about finding solutions,” Allgood said.

North Cascades Builders Supply is on Highway 20 across from the ball field. “It’s an incredible location in a great part of town,” Allgood said.
