Fire-recovery group needs housing for volunteer crews — plus local volunteers

March 2, 2016 by Methow Valley News

Want to help with fire recovery?

The Okanogan County Long Term Recovery Group is seeking a variety of volunteers — to house out-of-town building crews, primarily in Omak, Okanogan, Riverside, Tonasket and Conconully; and to help with burn and flood clean-up, fencing and building projects. People can volunteer on a periodic or more-regular schedule.

Housing for work crews of six to 10 people can be a shared set-up; a vacation or seasonal home; or a facility such as a church, gymnasium or recreation center. Locations where volunteers can camp — preferably with access to showers and cooking facilities — are also being sought.

Anyone interested in housing the crews or volunteering as an individual or part of a team should contact the recovery group’s volunteer coordinator, Kathy Power, at (509) 429-3133 or kathy@reawareness.com.

The long-term recovery group is coordinating the countywide effort to restore properties and lives devastated by wildfires in 2014 and 2015.

For more information, visit the recovery group’s website at www.okanogancountyrecovery.com.
