Grace Barcal was born on May 18, 1925, and raised in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 18 she met Charles Boesel on a cross-country train ride. They married four months later on Jan. 18, 1944, and started their family in Charles’ hometown, Winthrop.
They moved to Lakewood, Washington, in 1951 where they settled down and raised their four children. Grace was a classic housewife who managed the household with thrift and efficiency and guided the children with structure and compassion.
At the age of 90, Grace Boesel left this world on Jan. 19, 2016, and joined her beloved Charles just a few hours after their 72nd wedding anniversary. Grace will be missed by her four children and their spouses: Sue and Dan Holder; Steve and Dawn Boesel; Jim and Lynda Boesel; and Laurie and Todd Thompson; as well as 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A gathering to celebrate Grace’s life will be held on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 1 p.m. at The United Churches, 110 11th Ave., Olympia.
