Forest planning explained
Learn all about the North Central Washington Forest Health Collaborative’s efforts in a free public meeting at 6 p.m. next Wednesday (Jan. 20) at the Twisp Valley Grange. The group is providing pre-planning support to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest for a potential project in the Libby and Buttermilk Creek sub-watersheds. Know your native plants
The local chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society hosts a free workshop on how to identify our native trees and shrubs in winter on Tuesday (Jan. 19) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Station at TwispWorks. Community School open house
The Methow Valley Community School, at the Methow Valley Community Center in Twisp, will host a free open house to celebrate National School Choice week on Jan. 26 from 4 – 6 p.m. The school will also offer enrollment for kindergarten through sixth grade. For more information, call 997‑4447
Ski film at Twisp River Pub
Jumbo Wild, an environmental ski film, will be presented on Jan. 28 at the Twisp River Pub, beginning at 7 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Methow Valley Citizens Council, is free but donations will be accepted. For more information, call 997‑6822.
Water rights 101
The Washington Water Trust, the Okanogan Land Trust and the Okanogan Conservation District will co-host a one-hour workshop focused on water rights and conservation at Oroville City Hall on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m., and at the Okanogan Public Utility District meeting room on Jan. 26 at noon and again at 6:30 p.m. The workshop will provide information to anyone using water for irrigation or livestock. Specific topics include understanding water rights, water conservation practices, and the programs and resources available to land managers related to water quality and quantity. 4-H achievement banquet
The Methow Valley Cascaders 4-H club of the Okanogan County 4-H Youth Development Program will host an achievement and recognition awards banquet on Jan. 24 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Twisp Valley Grange. Bring a dish to share for the potluck, and bring a dessert and/or a crafted item for the live auction.
