A Tonasket-based group formed during the 2015 wildfires is continuing to assist fire survivors with recovery. The Okanogan Highlands Fire Relief and Recovery Network (FRRN, or “fern”) advocates for the immediate and long-term physical and emotional needs of disaster-affected individuals and families.
The nonprofit Fire Recovery Center is staffed by volunteers who help distribute labor, funds and donated goods in cooperation with the Tonasket distribution center and local and out-of-the-area church groups.
The recovery network helps with restoring adequate shelter, clean water, electricity and heat. Thy also provide information about other resources for long-term planning and recovery.
The recovery center has moved to the Subway building in Tonasket and is open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
