Liberty Bell boys prevail over Cascade, 45-38, play for tournament title

January 3, 2016 by Methow Valley News

By Don Nelson

The Liberty Bell High School varsity boys’ basketball team overcame a slow start and returned to its winning ways with a first-round, 45-38 victory over Cascade on Monday (Jan. 28) at the Cascade Tournament.

The Mountain Lions were scheduled to play Eatonville on Tuesday (Dec. 29) for the tournament championship.

After starting the season with four straight wins, Liberty Bell dropped home games to Brewster and Lakewood. The Mountain Lions started off sluggishly against Cascade, falling behind 10-3 after one quarter.

“A strong second quarter got us back in the game and then we were able to finally take control a little in the fourth quarter, going up by 10 points, and then hold on for the win,” coach Kyle Acord said.

Seniors Connor Cooley, with 15 points, and Micah Klemmeck, with 12, led the way in scoring.

Liberty Bell will play at Bridgeport on Tuesday (Jan. 5).
