Arts briefs: Dec. 16, 2015

December 16, 2015 by Methow Valley News

High school concert on Thursday

The Liberty Bell High School band and choir will present their fall concert at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 16) at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp. Admission is by donation.

Arctic adventures with Lynx

Primitive living skills instructor Lynx Vilden will present a slide show and readings as part of “Wandering Two Worlds with an Arctic Shaman,” her account of travels and experiences among the reindeer people in Scandinavia, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 22) at the Methow Valley Community Center. Admission is by donation. For more information, call 997-0511.

Bench to commemorate Tommy Z.

Fifth-graders at Methow Valley Elementary School are calling for proposals from local artisans to design and build a bench commemorating Tom Zbyszewski, a Methow Valley native who died in last summer’s Twisp River Fire while working for the U.S. Forest Service.

The bench should be designed to incorporate a picture of Zbyszewski and one of his favorite poems, and should be sturdy enough to be outside.

Those interested can submit a design proposal, including estimated materials and labor costs, to jduguay@methow.org or cbarber@methow.org by Jan. 15. Students will select a design. Dedication of the new bench is tentatively scheduled for May.
