Lauren Fitzmaurice is raising money to help with expenses.

Liberty Bell High School junior Lauren Fitzmaurice has been selected to represent the United States as an Under 19 basketball player at the United World Games next June for games to be played in Austria, Germany and Italy — but she needs help getting there.

A gofundme.com account has been established for Fitzmaurice in hopes of raising $2,500 toward her trip. Visit www.gofundme.com/tounitedworldgames to see her page. As of Monday (Nov. 9), about $500 had been pledged.

“I was recruited during basketball camps last summer, as a coach at Stanford camp recommended me to the World Games team,” Fitzmaurice says on her gofundme page. “Basketball means a lot to me, and being from the Methow Valley it’s difficult to be seen and get the exposure and opportunities I need. I have aspirations to play in college, and showcase trips like this are really helpful in college recruiting. An opportunity like this would also be a great personal learning journey — a chance to experience other cultures, languages, and values. … The funds I am seeking will augment my work income to pay for travel and team fees.”
