Highway 20 over Washington Pass (the North Cascades Highway) was closed today (Thursday, Nov. 12) at 10 a.m. because of “adverse weather and avalanche hazards,” the Washington State Department of Highways (WSDOT) said. Conditions will be re-evaluted on Monday (Nov. 16), WSDOT said. The highway will be closed from the Silver Star gate (milepost 170) to milepost 134 near Diablo.
WSDOT spokesman Jeff Adamson said Thursday that “there’s two feet of snow up there now and another foot forecast for today. Saturday’s forecast is for heavy rain. That’s a recipe for slides. The avalanche crew will reassess on Monday.”
