A 3-1 loss to Manson last Tuesday (Oct. 27) ended the Liberty Bell High School varsity volleyball team’s season, one win away from contending for post-season play.
The Lady Lions finished in a sixth-place tie with Bridgeport in the Central Washington 1B North division with a league record of 5-9 and an overall record of 6-10. The top five teams move on to the playoffs.
Coach Tim Boonstra said the Lady Lions were competitive all year in a tough league, and Liberty Bell played many games that could have gone either way. “There were any number of places that could have turned out differently,” he said.
The Lady Lions will lose seniors Mollie Houser, Erin Frey and Katlynn Umberger to graduation. Boonstra said he’s optimistic about the returning players. The freshman made good progress this year, he said.
“There is a lot of talent, and we have some spots to fill,” Boonstra said.
Liberty Bell’s junior varsity squad finished with a league record of 1-7.
