The playoffs picture remains muddled as the Liberty Bell High School volleyball team heads into its final games of the season with a chance for post-season play.
The Lady Lions split matches last week, beating Oroville, 3-0, at home on Oct. 23, then losing to Brewster on the road, 3-1, on Thursday (Oct. 15).
Five teams will make the playoffs from the Central Washington 2B north conference. Okanogan and Brewster are ensconced in first and second. Liberty Bell is one of five teams with similar records that are vying for the other three spots. The others are Lake Roosevelt, Tonasket, Manson and Bridgeport. “There’s not an ounce of clarity,” said Liberty Bell coach Tim Boonstra.
In last week’s Oroville game, Boonstra switched some players to different positions as an experiment. “We played really well, but not as well as we could,” the coach said.
Everyone returned to their usual roles at Brewster, but the Bears overpowered the Lady Lions, 12-25, 17-25, 18-25.
Liberty Bell hosted Bridgeport on Tuesday (Oct. 20), will travel to league-leading Okanogan on Thursday (Oct. 22), and finish the season with a home game against Manson on Oct. 27.
