The Liberty Bell High School volleyball team continued its push for a playoff berth with a convincing 3-0 win over Lake Roosevelt on Oct. 6, but dropped another close match at Tonasket on Thursday (Oct. 8).
The Lady Lions had lost a hard-fought encounter to Tonasket earlier in the season, 3-2. Last week’s match was a similar battle to the end, said coach Tim Boonstra.
In the deciding game, Boonstra said, “the longer the game went, the more it slowed down and the more cautious everyone became.”
Because the Lady Lions had been missing on close-to-the-line shots earlier in the match, they began playing “a little too close to the center,” Boonstra said, and “paid for it.”
Liberty Bell is tied for fourth in league play, the coach said, and needs to finish among the top five to make the playoffs.
The Lady Lions hosted Oroville on Tuesday, and will travel to Brewster on Thursday (Oct. 15). They will be back home to face Bridgeport on Tuesday (Oct. 20) at 5 p.m.
