District 6 candidates’ forum

A candidates’ forum for the Okanogan County Fire District 6 board of commissioners race will be held Tuesday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. at the Twisp Grange.

Twisp resident Les Stokes is challenging incumbent Roy Reiber, chairman of the fire district board, in the November general election. Reiber has been a commissioner since 1991, serving four six-year terms.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments, and the candidates will be present. The forum is sponsored by the Grange and will be moderated by Richard Hart.

New traffic camera

The Washington State Department of Transportation has mounted a new traffic camera at the west end of Winthrop on Highway 20, offering a view of westbound traffic. The camera can be found at www.wsdot.com/traffic/nccam.aspx?cam=9687, but was not functioning earlier this week.

Local woman injured in accident

A Carlton woman was injured in a one-car accident on Friday (Oct. 2) in Okanogan, the Washington State Patrol reported. Denise R. Sinnett, 48, was driving near the intersection of Highway 215 and Queen Street at about 2:20 p.m. when her car swerved and struck a parked vehicle, the State Patrol reported. Sinnett was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak, the report said. The State Patrol said Sinnett apparently fell asleep. According to the report, it is suspected that drugs or alcohol were involved and that Sinnett may be charged with driving under the influence.
